The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. The project will be executed by BMC’s subsidiary, BMC Investments Limited. The tannery will be located at the existing BMC premises in Gaborone. The new meat value addition and secondary processing plant will be located at the BMC premises in Gaborone. The project is expected to create 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.

This theme underscores the BMC’s commitment to pioneering the future of the beef export sector in Botswana, while simultaneously ensuring readiness for a fully liberalized market. The BMC’s journey towards this goal is marked by a series of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality, safety, and competitiveness of Botswana’s beef exports. These initiatives are not only geared towards meeting international standards but also towards fostering a sustainable and resilient beef industry that can withstand the challenges of a liberalized market. One of the key strategies employed by the BMC is the implementation of rigorous quality control measures.

The plant will be located in the industrial area of the city, which is expected to attract more investors. The project is part of the government’s initiative to boost the local economy and create jobs. The tannery will use environmentally friendly processes and technologies to minimize its impact on the environment.

The appointed Design Build Contractor is a Botswana entity called Colic Construction Development (Pty) Ltd, and the project will cost P120 million upon completion.
